Part I

You want me to talk about how BJ and I met? How this all got started right, right.

Well I saw him at school. We both went to Warmtackle High. He was a grade below me, so we didn't cross paths too often. Funny how he always caught my eye when I'd turn a corner in the hallways thou. You could tell he just did not want to be there. If he ever got close to making eye contact with anyone it was more like he was looking right through them. Pretty impressive I thought at the time. I wasn't big on school spirit myself. Neither of us were very friendly people, kept to ourselves mostly. I remember him with his headphones on all the time. Teachers would try taking them away, but he was somehow sneaky enough to get out of losing them.

But yeah like I said we didn't really cross paths, no classes together or anything. Extra curricular? Forget about it. All I wanted to do after school was get home and make tapes off the radio. You know, record songs from those crazy broadcasts we keep getting from outta state? My sister found the station one day and we couldn't believe what we heard. Her first instinct was to grab a tape and start recording. Wild rock and roll like you never heard. My sister, yeah she knows music. She's got an amazing record collection, but this stuff we were hearing, from another planet. She talked to her friends about it and no one believed her, so we were starting to wonder if we were the only ones picking up the signal. That is until BJ and I finally met.

He was getting picked on again. This time I think it was Cody Jacobsen. That kid was so gross. Sorry I'm just remembering back, don't mean to be so insensitive. Anyways, yeah Cody was bullying BJ calling him names and pushing him around. He got BJ's Walkman and chucked it across the floor right in my direction while I was coming up the stairs. When I picked it up I saw the tape inside. It was a blank with the words "740 1/2 AM Mix" written on the little label you stick on. Whoa, you know? That was it. That was the station my sister and I were listening to. You had to dial in WARM 740AM and then turn the knob just like a half turn to tune in. After seeing that something just clicked and I went over, pushed Cody into the lockers, leaned in real good and said "you're done". Felt like I was looking right through him, ya know. Everything was tingly and my head was like on fire. Then I just gave BJ back his walkman and went to class. It was all over like that, but I could not concentrate at all the rest of the day.

Wow it's kinda strange how vivid it all still is. Yeah well, umm, yeah after school let out I went to head home and there was BJ waiting for me outside. We've pretty much been inseparable ever since...
